Week 3 fantasy feedback
» Hopefully you were smart enough to grab Fred Jackson as a handcuff to C.J. Spiller. After Spiller left the game with a knee injury, it looks like Jackson is now the man in Buffalo.
» Marshawn Lynch had just 6.90 points this week. The Jaguars defense isn’t terrible, but still…
» In other news, there’s absolutely no reason to fear the 49ers rushing defense anymore.
» It’s going to be hard for the Colts to bench Ahmad Bradshaw after his 95-yard, one TD performance. But look for Trent Richardson to be a bigger part of the offense going forward.
» Colin Kaepernick can be a productive QB without Michael Crabtree as long as he still has both Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis. Lose one of those two and the 49ers have no threat of a passing game. You’re seeing that clearly today against a depleted Colts secondary.
» Some of you were worried that Russell Wilson might not be a good play against the Jaguars this week. Some of you were overthinking it.
» Just when you think Chris Ivory is getting into the swing of things, he gives you five yards on four carries. But do you really trust Bilal Powell? No. No you don’t.
» It’s also time to sound the fantasy alarm on C.J. Spiller who has nine yards on 10 carries today and could be in danger of losing his job to Fred Jackson.
» Maybe we were too quick to anoint Robert Griffin III last season. Or maybe the knee is still an issue. Either way, he hasn’t been the quarterback a lot of people have expected. The first two weeks, he’s been good for a garbage time touchdown or two. This week it didn’t happen and his fantasy totals suffered as a result. Might be time to consider him as a matchup-based start. Next week’s matchup is the Raiders … so you’re starting him.
» Joique Bell didn’t quite have Reggie Bush numbers, but he acquitted himself very well for any fantasy owners that dared to start him. As long as Bush is out, Bell is worth playing.
» The Cardinals offense just laid an egg today. Carson Palmer, Larry Fitzgerald, Rashard Mendenhall and the rest were general disappointments. Tampa Bay won’t do them any favors next week.
» Plenty of fantasy owners drafted Jimmy Graham as though he were a No. 1 receiver. So far, he’s living up to that. Through three weeks, he’s the only thing close to a consistent fantasy tight end.
» It’s hard to trust any Vikings receivers, but if there’s one to keep an eye on, it’s Cordarrelle Patterson who is starting to become more of a focus in the offense.
» Still, stay away from any Browns running backs.
» It was a tale of two halves for Brian Hoyer, but he finished with a 18.64 fantasy points. Still, there are too many other better (and more proven) options at the QB spot for you to consider giving him a look.
» A touchdown helped salvage A.J. Green‘s day, but this is now two straight weeks that he was held under 50 yards receiving. Yes, you should be concerned. Especially with the Browns (and Joe Haden) up next on the schedule.
» It’s a good thing the Packers have a bye next week because they’re short on RBs after James Starks went down with an injury and Johnathan Franklin had a crucial fumble late in the game. Look for Eddie Lacy to be ready by the time Green Bay faces Detroit in Week 5.
» The DeAngelo Williams as flex play meme continues with his 120 rushing yards against the Giants. Play him until the wheels fall off.
» There is nothing good to report about the New York Giants right now. Unless you count David Wilson getting into positive fantasy numbers for the season. But you shouldn’t.
» Is it okay to sound the fantasy alarm on Arian Foster? Just 54 rushing yards on 12 carries today and just barely over 30 combined fantasy points for the season.
» Chris Johnson gave you a typical Chris Johnson stat line: 90 rushing yards … no TDs.
» It’s officially time to play matchups against the Titans defense. They did a good job keeping Philip Rivers and the Chargers under wraps today.
» The Bucs terrible offense might start to take a toll on Doug Martin. His 88 rushing yards weren’t bad, but you have to wonder how much he’ll have chances to score this season.
» Stevan Ridley finished the day with just 12 total touches for 43 yards. Brandon Bolden had just eight touches, but he did a lot more with them. That’s bad news for Ridley owners.
» If only Murray could play the Rams every week: 175 rushing yards and a touchdown. Yeah, that’s good.
» The biggest mystery of the day is what happened to Daryl Richardson. The Rams rusher didn’t see a carry all day and there was no word as to why. It wasn’t as though Isaiah Pead and his 20 rushing yards were keeping him off the field.
» It’s yet another week when A.J. Green is missing in action. He saw an early target, but the pass was intercepted. He’s been held without a catch so far. This is becoming a disturbing trend.
» Tom Brady might want to hold off on calling Deion Branch. He’s connected with Kenbrell Thompkins for two touchdowns so far today. Maybe the panic button is being unpressed in New England.
» Just when you thought it was safe to trust Rashard Mendenhall, he has just 17 rushing yards. Total. Against the Saints.
» Stevan Ridley is running the ball pretty well with 27 yards. The problem is that he’s only seen the ball five times. Looks like the #Belitricks are strong today.
» New rule: play DeMarco Murray against the Rams. He’s already rushed for 95 yards in the first half.
» Who needs Trent Richardson or Brandon Weeden? Brian Hoyer has been on fire in the first half, throwing a pair of touchdown passes, including one to the newly-returned Josh Gordon.
» Early on in Week 3, the timeshare between Arian Foster and Ben Tate continues. Foster has four carries while Tate has logged three touches.
» That is…until Green-Ellis scores on Cincinnati’s next possession.
» In the budding battle between Giovani Bernard and BenJarvus Green-Ellis, it looked like the Law Firm would retain some value as a goal-line back. Except for the part where Bernard scored on a three-yard TD run. Bad news for Green-Ellis.
» More on Bush’s absence. Joique Bell had already established himself as a productive handcuff option in Detroit’s high-flying offense. As the starter for Week 3, he could be a nice addition in fantasy lineups — especially against Washington’s horrible defense.
» A few big names ended up on the Week 3 list of inactives — most notably Reggie Bush. Some of the others include Danny Amendola, Rob Gronkowski and Eddie Lacy. The last three shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, however. It means Larry Fitzgerald will play for the Arizona Cardinals today and could be productive against the Saints.
» We’re still a few minutes away from the Week 3 inactives being released, but there’s already one interesting piece of news for the day: Tom Brady is reportedly in contact with former Patriots receivers Deion Branch and Brandon Lloyd to see if there is any interest in rejoining the team. That speaks volumes about Brady’s comfort level with any of his current pass-catchers. Rob Gronkowski and Danny Amendola can’t return soon enough.
» Hopefully you were smart enough to grab Fred Jackson as a handcuff to C.J. Spiller. After Spiller left the game with a knee injury, it looks like Jackson is now the man in Buffalo.
